Looking for memories of his father~Frederick Dominic Von During Class of 1929 -1933

While looking through the Hollywood High website..My father went to school there I'm thinking 1929-1933..I know he mention it when I was 10 or 12 years old. He passed away in 1961,his name is almost exactly the same as mine..he was Frederick Dominic Von During.

The last name is two words Von During, although during WWII he temporarily changed it to Fred D. During so he could enlist and fight Germans. Anyway, I didn't know where to start..I guess if there is a list of student names from…

Letter of the Day: Dennis F. O'Connor

Hello Christopher Matthew Spencer,
I need the 1953 Hollywood High Year book.
I'm a Korean War veteran and after three years in the USS Ticonderoga CVA-14, I was stationed at Fallon Nevada and while there my mother and step father moved to Grant Junction. My son Brent was born there and they have a real good college there. I never went to college but I was a conductor for the Denver & Rio Grande Rail Road.

How far are you…

Reunions are Pretty Sheik!

I enjoyed taking a look at these wonderful photos from the recent 1991 and 1992 20-year join reunion that just took place. Photos are starting to show up on the internet and they look like they had an amazing time!

Start planning your reunion too and get your fellow Sheiks involved...it's not that hard, these grads didn't even use a professional company and their event came out very professionally!…

Reunions are Grand for Hollywood High School Alums!

Well Sheiks, it looks like the folks from 1991 and 1992 had an amazing reunion last night and the grads from those years held their joint reunion. The photos of food, fun and festivities can be found on this Facebook group:

And in speaking with the organizers, they did it themselves and decided against having a professional company do it and it would seem it…

Growing Up Sheiks Football

Growing up Sheiks Football

World famous Hollywood High School is known around the globe as a premier platform for producing global celebrity icons.  Growing up in Hollywood was the best life experience in the universe.

Aside from many activities, football and baseball were the choices for the neighborhood kids who roamed the streets after school.  I came to Hollywood High School in the spring of 1994 and immediately joined the football team.  All of my neighborhood friends that…

For Car Enthusiasts

Since I had been approached about the 1963 Hollywood High School class reunion, I was doing a little poking around online for any 1963 "look back" information and material and found a really interesting article about the 1963 Corvette Z06 on here and you'll enjoy reading the car articles in the process. The story is on pages 28 and 29.

FOREVER YOUNG

It happens before you know it. A glance in the mirror shows the beginning of age lines. Traces of gray hair have suddenly cropped up. You awake one morning, get out of bed and feel aches and pains in your joints when you walk. While shaving or moisturizing, you observe your neck is starting to look like a wattle. You can’t stop it. Aging is part of living and if you consider the alternative, a few wrinkles and some joint aches aren’t so bad. But why, you lament, why can’t you stay young…

Today's Member Email from Neil Menzies S'64

Hi administrators for the web site!

I think this email should be directed towards Carole Wells.

My name is Neil Menzies S64 and I was responsible for getting the museum display for Heather Menzies put together along with Jeanne Hon and Jerry Massey.

I came across another alumni who I feel should be recognized via the museum. His name is Randy Tuten S65.  Randy was a prolific and extremely talented artist while he was at Hollywood High.…

Today's Member Letter: Changing the Image of the Shiek!

The contents of this post do not necessarily represent the views or policies of the Hollywood High School, its employees or students; nor the Alumni Association.

Due to the present world situation and especially the Arab World, I think it’s time for HHS to change the image of the Arab Sheik (the Valentino movie idol of the 1920s) to a more fitting and modern icon and politically correct representation of a local high school.

I was always…

The Hollywood High School Loyalty Song

I received these lyrics from the 1971/1972 class reunion organizers and I was sure curious how many different ways this has been recorded and sung. If you'd like, you can record your version on YouTube and post a link in the comments below.

Adapted from the University of Illinois Loyalty Song, “We’re Loyal to You Illinois,” words and music by T.H. Guild, copyright 1907, by T.H. Guild.
