Today's Member Letter: Changing the Image of the Shiek!

The contents of this post do not necessarily represent the views or policies of the Hollywood High School, its employees or students; nor the Alumni Association.

Due to the present world situation and especially the Arab World, I think it’s time for HHS to change the image of the Arab Sheik (the Valentino movie idol of the 1920s) to a more fitting and modern icon and politically correct representation of a local high school.

I was always uncomfortable with the “Sheik” representation of my high school mascot.

Will you start the movement to change this antiquated image?

Please don’t go as far as the present demographics of the Hollywood area as this will change in time.

Sincerely,

Lt. Col. Gerald Katz
