What an amazing lady we have here! Doris Hendley Furness is a dear friend of the HHSAA and her grand daughter Wendy Deming reached out to us with this great message:

Mr. Spencer,

Thank you so much for helping make my Gramma's 90th birthday extra special.  She will be absolutely delighted to receive a letter from the Hollywood High Alumni and what a surprise it will be!  My mother, Doris' daughter wrote the mini biography below.

Gramma told me Andy Rooney graduated ahead of her.  Maybe with Judy Garland?  She does remember Jason Robards and that they graduated together.  Her favorite subjects at Hollywood High were English and typing.  She also held a part time job at an ice cream shop in L.A., but she can't recall the name of it.  She's also not sure if the school had a mascot when she attended there.  She doesn't remember the Sheik.  It would be great if any of the alumni could shed some light about that for her.

Again, thank you for your time and help.  It is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Wendy Deming

Doris Hendley Furness will turn 90 years old on February 15th, 2012.  She grew up in a lovely area of Baltimore, Maryland, the youngest of three sisters.  After the death of her father, she moved to Hollywood where she spent her last two years of school, graduating from Hollywood High in 1940.  Like many others, Doris married at the beginning of World War II, and after the war ended, she and her husband raised two children, first in northern New York and later in Northern Minnesota.  Alone in her sixties, she had a successful Mary Kay business.  At age 68, she decided to go back to school.  She sold her home on the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota and moved to Broken Arrow,  Oklahoma where she graduated from Rhema Bible Training Center in 1991.  First volunteering at Kenneth Hagin Ministries, she later got a job there.   Today, at age 90, she still works there every day.  Doris is an amazing woman, full of faith and vitality, strength and courage, kindness and thoughtfulness.  She is a Godly example and a blessing to all who know her.  Our hope is that all who read this will help make her 90th birthday extra special by sending a card to:  Doris Furness, 937 W. Lansing, Broken Arrow, OK  74012.
