The Hollywood High School Alumni Association Museum

The idea of a museum to highlight the history of the school as well as the famous alumni who

attended was spearheaded by Jeanne Hon, principal from 1991-1997. She would go through the

basements and storage areas looking for space to be converted into offices and instructional facilities,

and during her searches she found a great deal of memorabilia stored in boxes and completely

forgotten. “Isn’t it a shame that these treasures can’t be enjoyed by everyone” she would tell…

Vendor Spotlight

It's pretty rare that I feature a vendor on the blog because vendors work for money, we pay them and they get what they asked for and the deal is done.

Michael with MTM Delivery was someone I found off Craig's List because I needed a mover to take the 400 pounds of printed newsletters from Rancho Dominguez to Eagle Rock. He bid less than half of the price of anyone else and because he is doing this for us as a charity, he felt really good about it. And he contacted me with…

Today's Member Email

Dear Friends,

By now you have all probably heard about Cheri Fuqua's passing last Saturday after a battle with breast cancer. It is a real tragedy and shock to all of us. My thoughts turn back to the past...when times were simpler and life was mostly so much fun and Cheri was at the center of it all. She and I met in gradeschool, at Cheremoya, and spent much of those young years together, in Brownies, through high school and on into life.. But as we all have gone on to live own lives,…

Today's Alum Email

I am impressed since I had no contact for 63 years and then very professional contact.  June Tanner Jaffee, W'49,  is my only HHS classmate with whom I have had contact since moving across the country.  Congratulations on being so organized, etc.  You can save on the invitation since I will not be able to attend.  My husband and I are going on a Smithsonian cruise to Greek Isles in June.  We were in California three years ago, and I was impressed that the campus looked the same, to my…

Spotlight on Ruta Lee, Hollywood High School Class of Summer 1952

Certainly one of Hollywood's most glamorous ladies, Ruta Lee is also one of its most multifaceted and top-notched civic contributors. Born in Montreal, Lee is the daughter of a Lithuanian tailor. While at Hollywood High, Lee's career in show business began at the famed Grauman's Chinese Theatre… as an usherette, then candy girl. She was quickly promoted to box office cashier…

In Loving Remembrance of Robert Buckley '38

Bob Buckley was kidnapped by his Mother from Buffalo, New York, who stole away to Hollywood, California, where she did have some minor success in the movies. She didn't have a lot of roles, so of course, they didn't lead their middle-class Buffalo life, but were very impoverished. Bob said their poverty wasn't that important, because he always credited Hollywood High with having given him an extraordinarily good education, and wonderful friends. I believe it, because he was a Renaissance…
