Nolan was the first born son of Max and Frances Ballin of Chicago. He grew up surrounded aunts, uncles, cousins and brother Ernie and sister Elaine. Nolan moved to LA in 1939 and attended Hollywood High School. In high school he worked at McDonnell Douglas Burbank on Dauntless aircraft. After graduation, Nolan joined the Army Air Corps. and served as a drill instructor until the end of WWII. He attended LA City College studying business also acting classes which inspired his lifelong passion for performing.
He married the love of his life, Polly Ann in 1955. together they raised four children in La Habra Heights: Robin (Chris Wolf), Aaron ( Ruth Berstein), Lesley Ann (Jeff Byberg), and Christina. Later he was blessed with beautiful grand daughter Larissa and beloved grand son Linsey.
Nolan was in the beverage industry for several decades. Nolan and his family enjoyed swimming, horseback riding, avocado ranching, and running the family business. Nolan and Polly moved to Ventura in 1999 and enjoyed many years at the beach, until she passed in 2009.
Nolan was active in many community threatre, and volunteered in many organizations. He loved riding his bicycle, being the best friend to every pooch he met, spending time with family, friends and neighbors, fine food, wine and dancing.
