"Barbara, I have a year book but its presence is eluding me. However, if I find it I would not want to give it up. Still, I could scan the pages and e-mail them to you. Would that be helpful? Tom"

"Lou was a most friendly fellow. It seems to me that he participated in Pinafore as one of the crew. Achieving a four-star rating is a remarkable accomplishment. I had no idea he was so talented. Tom Evans"

What is your HHS class year?
1947

A Little Claim to Fame.

It was 1949 and I was attending Mt. SAC Junior College near Pomona. I was looking for work at the time and overheard a fellow student say that there was a little hamburger stand on Garvey Avenue in Baldwin Park that had a job opening. So, I went over there after class.

It was a small ten foot by ten foot white building in the middle of nowhere. There was a traffic signal at the nearby intersection. If you stopped because the light was red, you might have noticed the building with its red and white awning hanging from what appeared to be a car port that sheltered a window at the front of the building.

A driveway led to the window and I walked up to it. A rather stout fellow greeted me with a smile ready to take my order for a hamburger and fries which was the only thing that was served. His face fell a bit when I told him I was looking for work rather than buying a burger. We talked a bit. I told him I was a WW II Navy vet going to school. "Did you know how to cook?" he asked. "Sure," I told him, "Been cooking for myself for years." "Okay," he said, "Come in on Saturday and we'll see how it works out."

I showed up for work Saturday morning. He put me to work slicing tomatoes and onions, peeling and dicing potatoes, making fries and wrapping burgers.. When his partner came to work the night shift, I spent several hours with him. His partner told me to report to work the next day, Sunday morning. They both were satisfied that I could do the work and I had the job!

So it was that I became the first employee of the In-N-Out.
