It is with a heavy heart that I echo the news with fellow HHS alum - that Coach Dick Rippey passed away last evening, and had been at home, being cared for by hospice. He was a graduate of Hollywood High, as was his late wife Alice.
"Uncle Dick" as some of us came to know him - embodied what it meant to come from a school like Hollywood, and always strived to set the example of Achieving the Honorable. I know I speak for many of my classmates and fellow alumni - that he will be greatly missed.
Thankfully, those of us that are lucky enough to have a copy of "Hollywood High's First 100 Years" DVD - can listen to him narrate us through the hallowed halls yet again, just as he did for countless class reunions and Alumni Day events on Campus.
A memorial service of some kind is being planned, perhaps in June - but details aren't available at present.

One of our outstanding alumnus. He will be missed by all who knew him. There was no one more loyal to the school than out pal Dick.

I was sad to read of his passing. I met him summer of 1965 at Le Conte when I went there to play ping pong every day in the gym. He was the supervisor of summer activities and he was fun to be around. We had ping pong contests and award ribbons. I was in class of 1966 Le Conte and then went to HHS, I had him one year as a teacher. Vicky Valentine class of 1969 HHS.
