Hi ~ A recent rumor came to my attention, which has since proven to be unfounded (at least in the short run): That HHS and its' valuable real estate might be sold for commercial development.

There may not be any short-term threat, especially in this economy, but the rumor did raise thoughts about the idea of trying to secure National Register of Historical Sites/preservation status for the school and its' grounds. This would help ensure that one of if not the oldest major structure in Hollywood would retain its' place in the community for the benefit of future residents - if not students. Is there any interest in the HHS Alumni Association pursuing this matter?...Dutch S'56

An effort is underway to apply for National Historic Register status for the HHS campus, which would pre-empt any commercial redevelopment of the site. More information on this project will be distributed at Alumni Day 2010 and on future posts to this website.

That is good news! I'm glad that there are people like you that care about our hertage. I hope the Alumni Association keeps us informed of their progress.

I have since been advised that the Alumni Assn. is doing exactly that...was not aware of it, but am encouraged that it may someday come to pass. Thanks for your comments.

I think the Alumni Association should pursue the idea of getting the school listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. What a loss to the community if the property were eventually developed!
