Maybe you weren't at Merrie Freeman's get together when she was in town for her birthday. That was when Darrow mentionned my mother's passing to Nick and Frank, the only other guys who spent as much time around our home as you did. Guess I assumed you were there as well (?). It's sad, really, about our Mom. So much unresolved business with her when she took off for London in '72, primarily to Holland (Amsterdam), her native birthplace, never thinking that as a native born Dutch woman that in those years she would need a VISA to remain there (which had been her original intent). She was never really happy here anymore....not after so many personal issues overtook her between her divorce from our Dad, his remarriage, the problems her own family created (my aunt, my grandmother), etc etc. And the one truly gratifying thing out of all this was that when she had to leave Amsterdam because her visa had expired, she simply stepped off the plane in London and never got back on one. It's a long, mostly sad, story.
Glad to hear you're doing well, Phil. I suppose most of our teachers are too old (those still living), but there were a few I was looking for (Dr. Dan Desmond, who, like Ruth Kopf, came and visited with us in Athens in those years we spent our summers there), so those two -- and Patricia Smythe (who earned quite the little campus romance reputation dating Coach Barry Brown during my senior year and perhaps beyond that -- I always wondered whether they ever married). She was my Physiology teacher and we became close during my last semester there.

Why is your photo on its side? Yes, I'll take 1982-1990 back anytime! So, did you run into anyone you hadn't seen in awhile at Alumni Day? I take it you know the guy who was instrumental in setting up this site. My only objection to it is that there should be a link added (like a WHERE ARE THEY NOW?) for teachers who may have retired but may want to hear from people via email, or, it could just be information about how they're doing and what they're doing with an indication that they either do or do not welcome contact at this point in their lives. I looked at the list of teachers at HHS and recognize none of them!! But I am casually interested in looking up a few I had and which seems to be impossible.
Romaeo is fine as am I and I don't know whether Darrow told you this or not, but we did lose our Mom the week before Christmas. You know she had been living in London for the last 36years (one might even say as an expat) and so I am planning an ashes scattering ceremony to dignify the memorial occasion at Ellis Island this September and have persuaded DB to join me since he was way overdue on a visit to spend some time with us. So, here with us for a week (Sept 5-12) and 2 of those days in NYC.
