Our favorite places to eat where Pioneer chicken, The original Tommy's and Pup-n-Taco. And more recently at his favorite donut shop where we'd have a plan donut with a great hot cup of coffee. Dave was a great and loyal friend right to the end. Dave loved to give me a bunch of crap but always in a fun way and just for laughs. We've done a lot of crazy stuff together. Dave truly was a one of a kind guy. Our very last long drive was to go visit Judge in the hospital in San Bernardino. After our visit I drove him to check out a classic car dealership in Yucipia. We had a great time there as we always have. Throughout the day I'll be post some of the videos I took from that day. Dave my good ole buddy I'll miss you and I'll think of you often. Thanks for being a great friend and never ever judging me. Thanks for all the great drives and most of all for a lifetime of great fun filled memories. I'll cherish them forever my friend. I haven't forgotten the promise that I made to you during our last conversation. I'll kept it buddy don't you worry about that at all. And Dave I've always loved how you'd call me Ernesto and most of all that you always always said I love you brother and thanks for coming. Well Dave I love you my brother and I'll see you and Judge on the other side. Until then my good ole buddy don't you two cause too much of a ruckus in heaven. I wouldn't want you to to be evicted before I arrive.Roslyn Reps Nelson Wrote on September 28, 2016:tag:hhsalumnicommunity.ning.com,2016-09-27:2819529:BlogPost:553172016-09-27T18:23:13.000ZSUSAN J. A memorial website has been specially created for friends and former classmates to sign on to express your happy memories, contextual reflections and thoughts on this very sad chapter of my life. Many friends have been notified by longtime friends Frank Whipple (on Facebook) and you are steered to the Legacy.com (www.memorialwebsites.legacy.com/DHB-Memorial-Tributes) site to post your happy days reflections about what you will remember most about him. No memorial services have been planned for this year (perhaps on the one-year anniversary, though skipping summer, maybe next Fall) which is why the special website was established and is being sponsored for an extended time until early next year. Anyone not providing their last name will not be approved to have their posts submitted and while prayers and religious reflections are okay, let that please not substitute for the personal reflections that have been specifically allocated for the purpose of this site."In Memory of Michael Wiggins Class of 1966tag:hhsalumnicommunity.ning.com,2016-05-31:2819529:BlogPost:544142016-05-31T17:14:36.000ZSUSAN J. Michael was a wonderful husband.
He had accomplished a great deal in his 64 years. He worked in Japan for 20 years with Akai Electronics. He was head of the United States Division before leaving to open several Electronic Discount Stores.
He retired early to enjoy his family.
We were very fortunate to travel a great deal.
Michael's love was fishing. He helped build the boat, "The Independence " which is often leaves from San Diego.
We enjoyed many different kinds of fish...mainly Blue Fin Tuna and Barracuda.
Michael loved telling fishing stories.
I have a photo of Mike with his catch of a 307lb. yellow fin tuna that he caught in 2007.
I have wonderful memories of my life with Michael Leslie Wiggins.

The very best to everyone at your high school reunion.
The Hollywood High School Alumni Association is proud to announce the creation of the "Achieve the Honorable Scholarship" in the name of Coach (and Class of '58 alum) Dick Rippey. As a sign of our gratitude, each donor will receive a copy of a memorial video prepared in honor of Coach Rippey to remind them of what "Achieve the Honorable" really meant.
I just wanted to let someone there know she passed away last Tuesday in her home. This was following the passing of

Times art critic Christopher Knight, in reviewing a 2003 retrospective of her work at NoHo Modern in North Hollywood, said, "Following the trajectory of these paintings is rather like watching tectonic plates begin to shift, break apart and slowly bend beneath unseen forces of stoppable pressure — rather like the unfolding decade of the 1960s itself."

She did not, like some painters of the time, restrict her work to precisely measured geometrical forms. "Like jazz," Knight wrote, "the painting gives a platform to improvisation within an aggregate of formal rules."

A new, long-planned retrospective, "June Harwood, Splinter, Divide and Flow," is scheduled to open at the Louis Stern Fine Arts Gallery in West Hollywood on Jan 22.

June Beatrice Harwood was born June 16, 1933, in Middletown, N.Y., where her father was a physician. She got her bachelor's degree in fine art from Syracuse University then moved to Los Angeles where she taught at Hollywood High School.

She got her master's in art from Cal State Los Angeles.

Harwood was not part of the first exhibition of work considered to be hard edge, a term coined by art critic and curator Jules Langsner. That 1959 show in Los Angeles included paintings by John McLaughlin and Lorser Feitelson. Harwood's work was included in a 1964 hard edge show in San Diego, also curated by Langsner, whom she married the following year in Italy.

Two years later, he died at 56. The shock of his death kept her from painting for a while and she moved from the house they had shared. Friends such as painter Sam Francis helped her settle into an apartment where she could continue her work. And she continued teaching.

"I feel I can teach well and understand what kids are groping for," she told The Times in 1968. "The art field has never been more wide open or accepted, but at the same time, there are so many possible directions."

She told her students that no matter what direction they chose, the basic formula for finding meaning in their work is always the same.

"To be a painter, you have to be able to see yourself and understand," she said, "and this is difficult for any generation."

ATTENTION ALL HHS ALUM:

I regret once again, to have to report (albeit rather late, I'm afraid) the passing of yet another of our mentors and dear friends:

Eugene J. "Gene" Robidoux
February 21, 2013

Eugene J. "Gene” Robidoux, of North Hollywood, California died Thursday, February 21, 2013 - at Verdugo Hills Hospital. Gene had been in a semi coma for months as a result of a stroke.

Born in Manville, he was a son of the late Napoleon and Eva (Dupont) Robidoux. He was raised in Manville and attended St. James parochial school.

Mr. Robidoux was a graduate of Mount Saint Charles Academy, Class of 1954. He went on to graduate magna cum laude with his Masters and post-graduate degrees from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Gene was a veteran of the Los Angeles Public School system teaching math and computer science at Hollywood High School for over 44 years. In his earlier years Gene worked summers in television at KPLA.

A man of many interests Gene constructed his own radio apparatus and was expert with computer technology through its development over the last several decades. An adept mathematician Gene relished the chance to solve any mathematical problem regardless of length or complexity. Gene also was a train and railroad enthusiast.

Gene was the former husband and friend of Jeannine (Dery) Robidoux of Manville and is also survived by many friends on both the East and West Coasts.

His funeral was held Friday at 9:00 am at the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home 71 Central St., Manville and was followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. James Church, Division St., Manville.
_________________________________________________

Gene, if anyone were to have figured out how to communicate with your friends and former students - via a computer, it surely would be you! I'm sure I have somewhere buried in the attic - a shoe box FULL of computer cards, thousands of them - each with little rectangles filled in with #2 pencil - all to create a matrix image of Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse (flipping the bird) and a poor rendition of a Playboy centerfold - each above a yearly calendar.

You remembered not only my name, and my voice - but also unique personal data that surely would have been lost to most mortal of men.

You were patient, yet tough. Compassionate, yet not a pushover... and found that "certain something" within everyone you encountered.

Many of us can identify the very beginning of our interests in math and computers - in your class and after school... and we are all forever grateful, and far better for having had you as a teacher and a friend.

-- Thank you Noel Valero and Gary Kevorkian for the notice and obit.
tag:hhsalumnicommunity.ning.com,2013-03-12:2819529:BlogPost:418242013-03-12T04:01:26.000ZSUSAN J.
